The Silver Street Boys is an idea I had about a year or two ago and it's been sitting around waiting for the right opportunity to come to life. At one point I was even considering co-writing with another great writer friend of mine, but he got a project of his picked up and needed to focus on that. I got busy with my other shorts and so this one just sat on the idea shelf.
Then this summer I ran my Kickstarter for my collection of shorts called HERE WE GO and decided as stretch goals I wanted to add new content into the book. One easy short I wanted to add was another ANDROID JONES short, but since there were already two in the book, I was putting that last on the stretch goal list. I wanted to add something new and that's when I remembered this idea.
In thinking about the idea, I was trying to figure out who would be the right artist to bring this story to life and it didn't take me long to settle on Brent Schoonover. I've been a fan of Brent for a couple of years now, ever since I picked up his Archaia book MR. MURDER IS DEAD. I hit him up with the idea, he loved it, the book got funded and we were off to the races.
Brent really did a great job of bringing this book to life and giving it a personality all of its own. It's been an absolute privilege to work with Brent and I have no doubts he will be blowing up very soon. (Especially with his PHANTOM mini series on the way from Dynamite). Back on letters is of course Thomas Mauer and as always he is the glue that holds all my books together. It had been too long since my inbox was graced with his messages and I'm glad we could work together again.
This is a fun throwback to all the movies and stories I loved as a kid from GOONIES, to THE SANDLOT, to MONSTER SQUAD, to even the recent SUPER 8. We had a lot of fun with this one and I hope you enjoy it.
